All Ireland Glory for Coleraine Ladies
Ulster University’s Coleraine Ladies have been crowned All Ireland League Champions after a hard fought battle against Limerick IT.
The Coleraine ladies travelled to UCD Dublin for the final and pulled off a close win against Limerick IT with a final score of 1-08 to 0-9.
The Limerick IT ladies were on top of their game throughout the final forcing the Coleraine Ladies to pull off a superb comeback to win the game by two points.
The girls progressed from the group stages after playing Cavan IT, Stranmillis and neighbouring campus, Magee. The girls gained their place in the All Ireland final by beating Blanchardstown IT in the semi-final at home.
Manager, Tomas Mulholland was delighted with Coleraine Ladies All Ireland Success. ‘Throughout the league campaign the girls as a team were excellent. In the final itself the girls showed great hunger and character to come back from a few points behind to win the final by 2 points. Every girl performed to her upmost in several games and thoroughly deserved their all Ireland success.’
The All Ireland League success did not come easily as the girls trained two nights a week during the first semester and continued to train individually over the Christmas period.
The Coleraine Ladies are currently hoping to progress from the group stages to the semi-final of their championship competition. Although, their progression is beyond their control as they are waiting on other match results to find out if they top their group. ‘We were beaten by UCD in one game and we defeated Trinity in another so we’re currently waiting to see if we will win the group to progress to the semi-final.’ Explains Manager Tomas Mulholland.
Even if they do not progress further in the championship, Coleraine Ladies have currently done Ulster University proud with their outstanding All Ireland League win.
